What a wee little part of a person’s life are his acts and his words! His real life is led in his head, and is known to none but himself. Beautiful credit! The foundation of modern society. Who shall say that this is not the golden age of mutual trust, of unlimited reliance upon human promises? I don’t expect to retire. Every man must work, that’s his natural destiny.
I’ve always thought that each person invented himself… for whatever reason, through whatever circumstance, through whatever he is gone through… that we are each a figment of our own imagination… And some people have a greater ability to imagine than others.
And when they played they really played. And when they worked they really worked.
I have some wonderful friends from the Mideast that are as red, white and blue as anybody you know, that have been harassed, and I think it’s a terrible, terrible thing.
When hungry, eat your rice; when tired, close your eyes. Fools may laugh at me, but wise men will know what I mean.
Boredom: the desire for desires.
Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find how far one can go.
When a stupid man is doing something he is ashamed of, he always declares that it is his duty.
The love we were promised in fairy tales was never something for us to find. It has always been something for us to create.
Sometimes it’s not enough to know what things mean, sometimes you have to know what things don’t mean.
Take care of all your memories. For you cannot relive them.
I love life, but not everything in it. I love people, but not all of them. I love myself, but not everything about me.
